Why Are My Facebook Ads Not Getting Leads? Fix What’s Breaking Before The Form

By FlyPost · 10 July 2026
Where are my leads? Why Facebook ads are not getting leads

Facebook ads can run perfectly and still produce nothing useful. Here is where the leads actually go missing, and why the creative is rarely the culprit.

Why are my Facebook ads not getting leads is a question with four possible answers, and only one of them involves the ad itself.

The other three sit in places most business owners never look. Where the leads land. How the form was configured. What happens in the twenty minutes after someone taps submit.

We see the same pattern constantly. The account is spending sensibly, impressions look healthy, the clickthrough rate is fine, and the owner is convinced Meta has broken something. Then we open Leads Centre and find sixty leads sitting there from the last two months. Nobody ever downloaded them.

That is an extreme case. It is also more common than you would like.

You can use this guide to find your own version of that problem. If you would rather we looked, we can do that instead.

Quick Version

If you only have 20 minutes, work backwards from the enquiry rather than forwards from the ad.

A few things worth checking:

  • Leads may already be sitting in Meta, waiting for somebody to download them.
  • Ads Manager reports form submissions. It does not phone anybody.
  • Meta offers two form types, and the quicker one is built for volume, not quality.
  • “Contact us” is not an offer. Neither is “learn more”.
  • Speed of follow-up decides more outcomes than creative ever will.
  • Cost per lead is the easiest number to improve and the least connected to revenue.
  • Audience and creative come last, once the plumbing works.

Most accounts we open have a problem in the first three lines of that list, not the last two.

Lead form, offer and follow up - where Facebook ad leads go missing

Not Sure where to start?

Start with the form, not the ad.

Open Meta Business Suite, find your instant forms, and look at one you are running right now. Does it say More Volume or Higher Intent?

If nobody made a deliberate choice, it says More Volume, because that is what Meta suggests when you are clicking through quickly.

That single setting explains a great many “my Facebook ads do not work” conversations. Nothing is broken. The form is doing precisely what it was told: collecting as many submissions as possible, as fast as possible, pre-filled from the person’s profile in two taps.

If you are asking why are my Facebook ads not getting leads, work through this in order. The aim is to find out whether you have a delivery problem, a form problem, an offer problem, or a follow-up problem, before anyone touches the creative.

1. Check the leads are reaching you at all

Lead ads with an instant form collect information from people inside Facebook or Instagram, without sending them to your website. That is the appeal. It is also the trap, because the leads do not arrive in your inbox by magic.

They sit in Meta until somebody fetches them. You have options:

  • Download them from Ads Manager whenever you remember.
  • Pull them from your Facebook Page.
  • Check Leads Centre inside Business Suite.
  • Connect a CRM so they flow through without anyone thinking about it.

If nobody set that up, and nobody checks manually, the campaign looks like a failure while quietly working perfectly.

Go and look before you read the rest of this. If there is a pile of leads waiting, you have a very different problem to the one you thought you had, and a much happier afternoon ahead.

2. Your form type decides your lead quality

Meta’s own documentation is clear about this, and almost nobody reads it. When you build an instant form you choose the type. More Volume gives you a form that is quick to fill out and submit on a mobile. Higher Intent adds a review step, so people confirm their information before it goes.

That review step is friction, and friction is the entire point. It costs you submissions from people who tapped without thinking, and keeps the ones who meant it.

Signs you have chosen wrong:

  • Leads do not remember filling anything in.
  • Phone numbers ring out, repeatedly, at every hour you try.
  • Cost per lead looks superb while the sales team looks miserable.
  • Enquiries arrive from people who wanted something you do not sell.

Custom questions help as well. One open-ended question, something that needs a typed answer, filters out a surprising amount of noise. Ask what they need doing, or when they want it done. Do not ask five things.

If you sell something that needs a conversation, More Volume is buying you a low cost per lead and a high cost per conversation.

3. The offer is the ad

Most Facebook ads that fail are asking for a commitment the reader never agreed to.

Someone scrolling a feed at half past nine in the evening is not looking for you. They were watching a video of a dog. Your ad interrupted that. Asking them to “book a consultation” in that moment is asking a great deal.

Offers that tend to earn contact details:

  • A fixed price for a clearly defined job.
  • A straight answer to the question everyone asks you.
  • Something free that costs you little and saves them real effort.
  • A slot, a survey, a sample, a number.

Offers that do not:

  • “Get in touch to discuss your requirements.”
  • “Learn more about our services.”
  • Anything that sounds like the start of a sales process rather than the end of a problem.

The offer has to be worth more to them than their contact details are. If you are still deciding whether to run paid social at all, our guide on boosted posts vs ads covers that choice first.

4. Speed decides whether a lead becomes a customer

A Facebook lead is not a Google lead. On Google, someone typed a problem into a search bar and went looking for you. On Facebook, you found them.

That difference changes everything. Search leads will wait. Social leads will not. They were not planning to buy anything today, and the interest you generated has a short half-life.

Worth being honest about:

  • How long it takes from submission to first call.
  • Whether anyone owns that job when you are busy.
  • What happens to leads that arrive on a Friday evening.
  • How many attempts a lead gets before you give up.

If your process is to export leads on a Friday and call them on Monday, your ads are not failing. Your follow-up is, and no amount of creative testing will rescue it.

5. Audience and creative, in that order, last

Now you can look at targeting. Broad audiences with strong creative generally beat narrow audiences with weak creative, and Meta’s automated tools are good enough that heavy manual targeting often just makes things more expensive.

Creative matters more than most small businesses accept. A photo of your van is not creative. A short vertical video of you explaining the thing customers always ask about is.

If you send clicks to a website rather than an instant form, the page carries the whole burden, and our landing page checklist applies exactly as it does for search ads. Our social media marketing work treats the two as one system, because they are.

Fix the plumbing before you redecorate.

Common Mistakes

These are the mistakes that keep people asking why are my Facebook ads not getting leads.

  • Judging a campaign on cost per lead alone.
  • Running More Volume forms, then complaining about lead quality.
  • Killing an ad after four days, before Meta has learned anything.
  • Asking for phone, email, company, budget and timeframe, then wondering why so few finish.
  • Treating the enquiry as a finish line rather than a starting gun.
  • Blaming the algorithm before checking whether anyone downloaded the leads.
  • Copying a competitor’s creative without copying their offer.
  • Sending paid social traffic to a homepage.

DIY lane vs done for you lane

DIY lane:

Download your leads today. Switch to Higher Intent if you sell something that needs a conversation. Add one custom question that requires typing.

Rewrite the offer until a stranger would want it. Commit to calling every lead the same day, ideally within the hour.

None of that requires an agency. Most of it requires an afternoon and a decision.

Done for you lane:

This gets harder when you run several campaigns, when leads need to reach a CRM automatically, or when you cannot tell whether an enquiry came from Facebook or from Google.

Our social media marketing work covers the campaigns and the plumbing behind them. If you cannot currently trace where an enquiry came from, start with enquiry tracking, because everything else is guesswork until you can.

Why are my Facebook ads not getting leads FAQs

FAQ cover image
Why are my Facebook ads not getting leads?

It usually comes down to one of four things: the leads are sitting undownloaded in Meta, the instant form was built for volume rather than intent, the offer is not worth anyone’s contact details, or nobody follows up quickly enough.

How long before I should judge a Facebook lead campaign?

Give it enough conversions to leave the learning phase. In practice that means a couple of weeks at a realistic budget, rather than a few days at a token one.

Should I use an instant form or send people to my website?

Instant forms convert better and qualify worse. If you have a strong landing page and decent tracking, the website route gives you better leads and better data. If you have neither, the instant form buys you time.

Why do my leads say they never filled in a form?

Almost always a More Volume form. Fields pre-fill from the person’s Meta profile, so two taps submits it, sometimes before they have registered what they did.

Is a low cost per lead a good sign?

On its own, no. Work out your cost per qualified conversation instead. A five pound lead that never answers the phone costs you more than a thirty pound lead that does.
