The employer list is the thing to understand about Epsom. Toyota’s GB company is registered at Great Burgh on the edge of town, and the engineering consultancy at Woodcote Grove is AtkinsRéalis. That last one matters: it was WS Atkins until October 2023, and copy that still says Atkins dates itself instantly. A lot of the money here sits in professional services and corporate offices rather than on the high street.

Epsom Hospital is the other anchor. It is run by Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, which serves over 490,000 people and employs more than 7,200 staff across its sites. Since 2025 it has worked alongside St George’s as a hospital group, though the two trusts remain legally separate organisations. For local suppliers, trades and professional services that is a large, steady customer base sitting on Dorking Road.

Then there is the racecourse. Epsom Downs is a Jockey Club course and the Derby is the reason most people outside Surrey know the town. Over 28,000 racegoers came to Derby Day on 6 June 2026, and the 2027 festival is already set for 4 and 5 June.
