The 2021 Census counted 389,300 people in the borough, up 9.2 per cent from 356,400 in 2011 and ranked 17th of 309 local authority areas in England. The ONS calls it the eighth least densely populated of London’s 33 boroughs, at about 32 people per football pitch.
