Three Rivers grew 7.4 per cent between the 2011 and 2021 Censuses, from 87,300 to 93,800, and the council’s emerging Local Plan puts the district at 95,090 on the 2025 mid-year estimate. The same plan records 90.6 per cent of Chorleywood households with a car or van, against 76.5 per cent for England, and an average residential density of about 18 dwellings per hectare here against about 52 in Rickmansworth town centre. That is a town that drives, spread thin, doing almost all of its trading from homes and small units.

That shape matters commercially, because a professional-services economy lives or dies on being found. Solicitors, accountants, consultants, trades, therapists and IT firms here compete on trust rather than shelf space, and the first thing a prospect does is look you up. The Common gives the town its calendar: Chorleywood Village Day ran on 11 July this year, and the parish council runs charity guided walks across the summer, with one on 26 August 2026.

The town’s best known claim to fame is worth getting right. The Chorleywood Bread Process was genuinely developed here, in 1961, at the British Baking Industries Research Association. Its successor body, Campden BRI, has not been in Chorleywood for decades: its head office and research site are at Chipping Campden in Gloucestershire, and it lists no Chorleywood address at all. The name outlived the address by more than half a century, and plenty of writing about the town still implies you could go and visit a bread research institute here.
